A Window to the Fatherland – Tuesday 15 May 2018

We broadcast tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works from the Los Angeles studios of IraneFarda TV Channel.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We continue the program with talking to our colleague at IraneFarda TV, theatre director Massoud Assadolahi, who would share with us his expert views about the state of arts and cinema in Iran of today.

We will also remember the veteran Iranian journalist/writer Hossein Mohri who died over the weekend in exile in Los Angeles.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

Have you made any use of your experience of working at radio and television in the world of stage and cinema?

Massoud Assadolahi:

My stay in the US for the last thirty-three years has been a new experience for me all together. It has been a positive and good experience because you are no longer acting as a moderator or presenter and thus you are required to connect to your audience. You become yourself, which is rather difficult to do in this business.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

I have noticed that you have become more satirical in your presentations and talks.

Massoud Assadolahi:

I look at the headlines and think about them but they tend to take my mid into another world.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

It is important that you are a writer and producer of your own program at the same time. Anyhow, the Iranian regime is a satirical being and the mullahs are always figures of fun.

Massoud Assadolahi:

It would be nice if someone could actually make a collection of these clips for future generations to see them.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

What do you think is happening in Iran of today? You and I remember the days when the US dollar was equal to 7 tomans. It is now selling at 7000 tomans.

Massoud Assadolahi:

I remember the late writer Saeedi Sirjani’s advice that told us not to leave Iran. Some people attacked him and called him a spy who worked for the regime. But when he was murdered by the same regime the same people mourned him.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

What do you think of Iran’s current cinema?

Massoud Assadolahi:

I do not consider Asghar Farhadi and Jafar Panahi as being part of the regime’s cinema. These are writer/directors. In the past, it was a fashion to bring foreign directors into our cinema and even Empress Farah did like the idea. But gradually Ghotbi concluded that experience is more important and directors like Massoud Kimiayie and Bayzaie who had no university education became good director.

Just like Shamlou and Akhavan who had never attended poetry course became great poets. Art is like a spring; it has to come naturally from within you.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
Stay with us for this edition of A Window to the Fatherland and share it with your family and friends.
